Chennai Super Kings overcome RCB in a high-scoring thriller
Runs were ebbing and flowing at the Chinnaswamy Stadium as they always do, but this time, the intensity was far higher. The hosts nearly pulled off a record-breaking run chase in front of their home fans against the mighty Chennai Super Kings, but as it turned out, they fell just short of what could’ve been one of TATA IPL’s greatest ever run chases.
According to Nextbet after the early dismissal of Ruturaj Gaikwad, Chennai Super Kings got going through the power-hitting of Devon Conway and some classy aggressive batting continued by Ajinkya Rahane, who seems to be enjoying his life in the yellow jersey. The duo added 74 runs for the second wicket and took the side to a brilliant start in the early overs.
Shivam Dube entered the act after the dismissal of Rahane, adding a stellar partnership in the company of Devon Conway. The duo dismantled the RCB bowlers, adding 80 runs in 37 balls, with Dube completing yet another quickfire fifty for the CSK. Conway too upped the ante and nearly got to a hundred, but that wasn’t to be the case.
With Moeen Ali, Ambati Rayudu and Ravindra Jadeja contributing a bit in the end, CSK finished with 226/6 in 20 overs.
Bangalore got off to a blazing start with Virat Kohli starting thinga with a boundary, but things got bad to worse soon with Chennai picking up two early wickets. The Impact Player Akash Singh dismissed Kohli, whilst Tushar Deshpande dismissed Mahipal Lomror. This is when the senior pros in Faf du Plessis and Glenn Maxwell took over the proceedings.
The duo batted at a supremely high strike rate, more than what was needed at that stage. They struck boundaries for fun and took full advantage of the powerplay overs. They ended up adding 121 runs in just 61 deliveries, keeping RCB in pole position to complete this run chase. This is when CSK started pulling things back with the wickets of both these players in consecutive overs.
Things fell apart after that for the hosts, whose fans were disappointed to watch yet another match go away from their hands. Dinesh Karthik tried to make something happe with his cameo but they eventually fell eight runs short. CSK jumped to the third spot on the table with this win, while RCB find themselves in the bottom half.
